Abstract
This study aimed to serve as a basic study for the emotional evaluation of stroke patients by presenting the correlation between the quality of life and the variables of emotional awareness (clarity, attention, improvement) and emotional expression (positive expression, negative expression, impulse intensity) in such patients. Research participants consisted of 118 stroke patients from Jeonnam and Chungnam areas who are being treated in institutions with occupational therapists. The participants were selected through a set of subject criteria, and they also had to score above 20 in MMSE-K, which is based on the reliability and validity of Korean version of Mini Mental State Assessment.
The results of the correlation were as follows: the r value of correlation between emotional awareness and quality of life was .519; the r value of correlation between clarity and quality of life was .471; and the r value of correlation between positive expression and quality of life was .673. These r values all show relatively strong positive correlations.
This study was significant in preparing a basis for understanding of the emotional aspects of stroke patients.
